Learning Lights: The Three Channels of Readiness
Before a swimmer can unlock a new skill, three “learning lights” must turn green. We call this the three-channel readiness model (3CRM). If even one light is red, progress stalls. When all three shine, growth happens calmly, confidently, and with joy
Why This Matters
Learning happens best when a child feels safe, capable, and focused.
When one of those pieces is missing, pushing harder doesn’t help — it creates resistance. Our instructors are trained to recognize readiness in real time - adjusting pace, expectations, and challenges so progress never comes at the cost of confidence.
Example: Teaching a Back Float
A back float asks a swimmer to trust the water, relax their body, and focus on simple cues — all at the same time. If even one of those pieces isn’t ready, the skill won’t stick. That’s why we slow down, adjust the environment, and build readiness first — so when a skill clicks, it lasts.
